Upward Bound is a college preparation program that recruits high school underclassmen and guides them to their first year of college.  RCTC Upward Bound is made up of the three high schools in the district, Mayo, John Marshall and Century.

Throughout the four years with Upward Bound, students have a variety of experiences.  They go on college tours around the country; these past few years they’ve visited major colleges including Stanford, Vanderbilt, Georgetown, and Rutgers.  Besides college tours they also promote community awareness, encourage community service, and  assist volunteer programs, while also adding incentives like theatre or sports tickets throughout the year.

This program is designed for first generation students going to college. The main guidelines for Upward Bound are the two hours of required tutoring per week, which are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school in the library. Students must maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher, so prospective students must be willing to work hard.
