If you’re new to Mayo High School this year, you may have heard people talking about GOFA, and you may be asking yourself: What is GOFA?
Give One For All (GOFA) is a school-wide fundraiser that takes place every year throughout the month of December. This exciting time of year is filled with Oreo balls, Paranoia, Caroling, and lots and lots of money being raised to make charitable contributions to The Dorothy Day Hospitality House and The Women’s Shelter.

The Dorothy Day Hospitality House is a homeless shelter located in downtown Rochester, offering temporary housing for adults age 18 and older. Along with housing, the Dorothy Day House also provides food, warm clothing, and toiletries to people in need, at no cost. This year the Dorothy Day House is celebrating their 41st year helping thousands of people. Without donations and volunteers the Dorothy Day House would not be able to stay open.

The rest of the money that is raised goes to The Women’s Shelter, which helps individuals who have been victims of domestic violence. Each year, The Women’s Shelter offers temporary housing for up to 3,000 different people. The Women’s Shelter has been saving thousands of lives for 49 years and is dependent on volunteers and donations to keep helping victims.
In order to help out the Dorothy Day Hospitality House and The Women’s Shelter as much as possible we need your help. There are many different ways you can give and raise money during GOFA if you get involved. Some easy ways to raise money include making baked goods and selling them to your peers. With the money that you raise you can give it to your favorite teacher to support them in Professor Mayo!
Another way to give money to GOFA is by participating in events. There are plenty of different opportunities including Paranoia, Beatnik Cafe, Bingo, Penny Wars, Dodgeball, Powderbuff, and even a Clash Royale Tournament. There are also prizes for events you participate in, so make sure you try your best!
If you would like to see all of the events, activities, and sales taking place this month, use the menu bar at the top of The Advocate website to go to the GOFA category.
No matter which events you participate in or what food you buy or sell, the important thing is that you get involved! When everyone in the school works together for this common goal we can accomplish more than we ever thought possible.
And remember, all proceeds go to the Dorothy Day Hospitality House and The Women’s Shelter!
