As Mayo’s GOFA fundraiser kicks off, the Latines Unides club is preparing to bring back their serenatas, which were a hit last season. Many students still remember how fun and surprising they were, and the club is hoping to bring that same excitement back again this year. They will be delivering them on December 11 and 18 from 2nd-4th hour and 6th-8th hour.
Each serenata includes one of three songs: “Feliz Navidad,” “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” or “Last Christmas. They picked these three songs because they are familiar, festive, and perfect for getting people into the holiday spirit. The price of the serenatas is $10 or $15 for 2, which seems small when you think about how much joy you can bring someone. Along with the performance, each person also receives a kindhearted note as well as a cookie.
The success of last year’s serenatas is only a starting point for Latines Unides. The club has been working hard to prepare. They are determined to make this year’s event even better. Since GOFA supports the Dorothy Day House, the group says they’re glad that this tradition is part of an effort that helps raise money for something meaningful and allows them to share their culture with the school.
They want students to understand that serenatas aren’t just a random idea; they are a symbol of love and appreciation in Mexican culture. The club hopes that by bringing serenatas to Mayo’s classrooms, the school can get a glimpse into their culture.
Make sure not to miss out on your chance to send one and brighten your loved one’s day! The poster attached to this article includes a QR code where you can sign up for serenatas.
