Notable Mayo Alumni

Fifty years have passed since Mayo High School first came to be.  Within those fifty years, thousands of young men and women have graduated and gone on to do great things in life.  From sports to academia, Mayo alumni have done it all. Here are several notable alumni who have accomplished great things throughout their time at Mayo and beyond.  

Michael Restovich

Graduated: 1997

Accomplishments: Restovich played for several major league and AAA baseball clubs, including the Twins, Rockies, Pirates, Cubs, Nationals, White Sox, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, and a 48 game stretch when he played in Japan.  

 

 

Honourable Judge Kevin Lund

Graduated: 1973

Accomplishments: Judge Kevin Lund is a district juvenile court judge who founded the Mayo Debate Team and recently led them to a state victory over Eastview, who had previously held the title for almost 14 years.

 

 

Eric Strobel

Graduated: 1976eric-strobel

Accomplishments: Strobel played for Team USA in the Miracle on Ice game against Russia in the 1980 winter olympics.  Additionally, he played college hockey for the University of Minnesota and was on their 1979 championship team.

 

 

Madeline Van Ert

Accomplishments: Madeline Van Ert has played a significant role in promoting the arts in the community ever since graduating.  Her community involvement and charm led her to be a representative for Minnesota in the Miss America pageant, where she received the Miss Congeniality award.  This award is voted on by the other contestants and was given to Madeline for her friendliness along with her stellar personality.  

 

 

Kelly and Coco Miller

Graduated: 1997

Accomplishments: These twin sisters played basketball with each other all their lives.  They played in the Nike National All-Star game, were first team all-state members, and were declared Miss Basketball as a pair in 1997. Both of these individuals were different in many ways, but the aspect of their high school career that makes them remembered is very similar.
