Registration is free and open for the 2025 Poetry Out Loud prep course with Rochester Community Education!
The Poetry Out Loud team memorizes and recites great poetry, preparing two or three poems from the Poetry Out Loud anthology to perform at a local competition at the Rochester Repertory Theatre. Local judges will name winners on January 27, 2026, to move on to the regional Poetry Out Loud competition in February. Current students on the team (from Century, John Marshall, and Mayo) are an engaged and collaborative group, and teammates frequently move beyond regionals to compete at the state level.
Poetry Out Loud is open to ALL high school students (grades 9 – 12) within RPS boundaries.
The group meets on Tuesdays November 18 – January 27 (days off for school breaks) 6:30-8 p.m. at the Northrop Community Ed. Center, 201 8th St NW. Class starts on Tuesday, November 18th, but then they will take the next week off (11/25) for Thanksgiving and start back again on 12/2.
