Poem by Kate Rose

Kate Rose
Like great artists, my happy life you all paint
When I hear Lodi, Wisconsin, a smile is on my face
Hot, sticky summers full of Barbies and Kens
We always fall asleep late because bedtime is not until 10:00
Trips to the lake on the hottest of days
We come home sunburnt and sandy, falling asleep right away
Soon the days get shorter and the summer time ends
Big tears fall from my eyes because not until Christmas will I see you again
But I can wait; I know I can, since Christmas is fun too, with many things to be planned
Gavin and Weston will sometimes join
And Abby writes plays that the parents pay to see with fake coins
Musicians fill the house with sweet holiday sound
Everyone sings along, the piano they surround
Soon January comes along and everyone will disappear
Big tears fill my eyes once again, and I wish I could make the time reverse
But, I try to remember not to worry; I have nothing to fear
We will all be together again next year
There is not enough space left on this small page
To tell you how much I love you, how much of my life you have shared
Simple words are not enough to express the gratitude in my heart
Of the memories we have had
Of the memories that are yet to start
