Today, Mayo High School is hosting an all school art show at door 1 on Monday, April 27th, and Tuesday April 28th. All students and staff were able to submit their art, which makes for a unique display of talent from across the Spartan family. Look for a gallery tag with each person’s name and the title of their piece. The art show will be open for viewing on Monday, April 27th, from 3:30 to 6:00 and on Tuesday, April 28th, from 8:45 am to 2:30 pm.
This art show has been put on at Mayo for around ten years, but only during the first semester. This year is the first time that it is being held during the second semester, which allows students who are taking art classes the opportunity to showcase their work, even work that may have been started during first semester. As a result, some of the pieces are more elaborate, intricate, and breath-taking. One particular group that this matters a great deal for is the Ceramics 3 class, which is mostly made up of seniors and only offered during the second part of the year.
One of the Ceramics 3 students, Juniper Johnson picked a piece she made last year. She decided to enter it into the art show because ”the piece…made me feel most proud of my work.” This art show is all about showing how artists have grown and developed their talents. Being able to exhibit pieces can make a person have a greater feeling of confidence as well as pride in their work.
Ms. Quinn, the ceramics teacher, has a whole resume on just hosting art shows alone; she has been doing them for “around 30 years, in elementary schools and now here.” Having all of this experience allows Ms. Quinn to understand why these experiences are very important for all kinds of artists.
Whether you are an artist or someone who enjoys art, the Mayo art show is a great occasion to support student work and experience the genius within the school’s community. From detailed ceramic pieces to drawings, paintings, and mixed media projects, there is something at this display of Spartan talent for everyone to appreciate. Students, staff, and families are encouraged to stop by and explore the wide variety of pieces on display.
