Mayo Girls have improved immensely over the years, and are currently in 3rd place for the Big 9 behind rivales Northfield and Owatonna. Sections are in less than one week on May 28th and 30th at Cannon Golf Club, the girls are looking to make it to the second day of sections as a team.
The girls golf team is putting in countless hours of practice, demonstrating remarkable dedication and determination, really making an effort this season to make it to day 2 of sections, where top six teams advance. “Getting to Day Two of sections as a team would be amazing. We’ve had individuals qualify in the past, but to make it as a team would be a huge accomplishment and show that we are all playing well,” senior Claire Nelson said.

The Mayo Girls’ team has focused on every aspect of their performance to best last year’s record; “we have been working so much this year to improve our mental game in meets, and it has really helped,” senior Avery Meyer explained.
Another reason that the girls are doing much better than last year has much to do with the addition and work of some key players; for example, sophomore “Flora Bolster has improved so much this year. She went from shooting mid 90s and high 80s to mid to lower 80s and even a 73 at Mississippi National,” Meyer said. There are also a few others who have improved immensely such as Dylan Raukar, Sloane Bolster and Clara Dahl.

In the end of the season big 9 event the girls placed third behind Northfield and Owatonna and took first in the All-City meet at Northern Hills. All that’s left is Sections with two seniors on varsity. The team is very young but are working harder and harder each day left so they can make it to day two of sections against the best teams.
The girls are coached by a great teacher and golf coach, Steve Myhro and assistant coach Danielle McClintock. The girls jumped from 6th in the conference last year to 4th this year, with the help of Avery Meyer who is committed to the University of Wisconsin-Stout to play golf this fall. Although they have a couple golfers who will be graduating this year, the team is still very young and talented with a 7th grader Sloane Bolster, Dylan Raukar who is an 8th grader and Flora Bolster who is a 10th grader.

Mayo Girls Golf team has a bond like no other. They hangout and do things as a team outside of school and practice. They always bring that friendship onto the greens as they prepare for the sectional tournament at Cannon Golf Club, where they have their eyes set on winning.
