Girls Lacrosse bounces back better than ever!

2024 Season Preview
Girls+Lacrosse+bounces+back+better+than+ever%21

Spring sports are starting, which means lacrosse is around the corner! Lacrosse tryouts start during spring break, and the girls are getting excited for the upcoming season. Last year they had a record of 8-7, placing them third in their section. This year the captains are going to make the girls work harder than ever, so they can get 1st in their sections. Lots of new girls are joining, and returning players are excited to overcome their challenges and work to turn their losses into wins with the new season coming!

The senior captains are all excited and anticipating the upcoming season. Sydney Albrecht said, “We are coming off of a record-breaking season, and we are taking this energy into this year! We’ve all been doing a lot of hard work in the off season. We have a lot of talent and hard workers. It will be a fun year!”

Captain Alaina Ripley focused on the mental aspect of what will strengthen the team: “On and off the field, our team comes together with unity, strength and perseverance. Most importantly we put our trust in one another.” The team has great leaders who will take the team far this year.

In previous years the Spartans have struggled, but last season they came together as a team to put the numbers on the scoreboard and balls in the net. This year they are focusing only on improving from there in order to take on teams like Mankato, Owatonna, New Prague, JM/Lourdes and of course the cross town rival Century, a team that is always a challenge. The girls have been working hard during the off-season to improve their skills, strength, and speed in order to take them all on.

Returning starter Neveah Ficken plays offense and is ready for the new season. She said, “It is exciting to have all the new girls join and see our team improve to overcome the challenging games together.” Defender Andrea Augeson said that she is hopeful that “the girls [will] win this year like they did last year.”

Get ready for a competitive spring season, and make sure you come out and support Mayo’s Girls Lacrosse Team in games starting after Spring Break.
