My name is Esmir, and am currently a senior at Mayo High School. I am involved in many music-related activities at Mayo. I am in choir, was involved in our production of Mamma Mia! as an ensemble member, and play both baritone saxophone and bass clarinet in band in which I was on the leadership team during marching season. After I graduate, my plan is to pursue a political science major at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.

    I believe that journalism plays a very important role in keeping a democratic society as a whole educated on their surroundings. Without the power of the press providing vital information on politics, culture, and other relevant topics to the people, we would live in a much more ignorant society.

I have always been interested in journalism, particularly writing, and hope to improve my writing skills in the class and use it as a window for me to write about what I care about and share it for those who choose to read it.
