The Art of Being Mindful
March 7, 2016
“Mindfulness is a modern movement, appropriated from ancient Buddhist roots, and clinically innovated by Jon Kabat-Zinn. The practice of mindfulness involves being aware, moment-to-moment, of one’s subjective conscious experience from a first-person perspective.” Mindfulness is all about living in the moment and allowing one’s imagination and sense of being to become free. It is about being curious about the world around you and allowing your inner child to be free to experience every little bit of joy and wonder. Mindfulness has proven to lower stress, increase energy levels, reduce feelings of anxiety or depression, strengthen your immune system, and improve social relationships. It is a simple understanding of becoming one with the world around you and only takes five to ten minutes a day to start receiving some of the physical and emotional benefits. Below is a website that helps lead you through mindfulness activities. It shows different ways to be mindful. http://www.mindful.org/meditation/mindfulness-getting-started/
There is also a book written by Dr. Patrizia Collard called The Little Book of Mindfulness that explains different mindful activities that can be completed each day for five to ten minutes that will lead to “Less Stress, More Peace.” Inside also contains quotes like this one, “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so,” from Hamlet. These quotes help to also explain the concepts of mindfulness and the way we could see the world if we were mindful.
