As the festive season begins, Mayo High School’s orchestras will be performing their very first concert of the school year. Conducted by Mrs. Kuisle, the Winter Concert, which is free to attend, will showcase all three orchestras performing one after the other, starting at 7:00 P.M. on December 4th in the MHS Auditorium.
Each orchestra will perform a few unique and intriguing pieces. “The music is going to be really energizing and fun to listen to,” Mrs. Kuisle explained. Some of these pieces are Thundersnow!, All of Tchaikovsky, and Sleigh Ride. She describes these pieces as “exciting” and “cool to listen to.” The few months of preparation were productive, with no barriers in the way. Mrs. Kuisle describes this year’s preparation as “smooth” compared to past years, when she would usually catch a sickness along the way.
This year, around 150 students will be performing, the biggest group of students in eight years. “It’s always more fun to have more people in the audience than on the stage,” Mrs. Kuisle explains. “And it’s always fun to listen to all these concerts to hear the orchestras go in order and hear the progress that people make as they spend more years in the program and practice more.” As the orchestra does not have an October concert like the band, they spend extra time and work hard on the same pieces for a couple of months, which in the end is very nice to listen to.
As stated earlier, the concert is free, and seating is general admission. Showing up will be a rewarding experience as well as a way to support your peers, so make plans to attend and enjoy a great night with your friends.
