Entertainment Review: Captain America Civil War
May 27, 2016
Captain America has to be one of my least favorite Marvel characters. I mean his powers include a shield that is indestructible and that can always bounce back to him. Oh and that he hits the gym a lot so he is yoked. Snooze. What he does have going for him are the Russo brothers the duo directing him. They know how to elevate something like the monotonous super hero journey into something special. Captain America feels natural and real unlike many other super heroes (cough, cough, Superman). What the Russo brothers do well with this movie is that they ground it to reality. Citizens are obviously dying from these heroes flying around having joy rides with aliens and such destroying buildings. The entire Marvel lineup of heroes knows each time they save the world thousands are bound to die. The audience can feel these heroes pain knowing of this reality. It is just a matter with how to deal with it that sells the movie. Take Iron man’s side, having all heroes held in check by a separate entity. Captain America’s is sticking with the old ways, essentially, let the heroes be heroes. Having Iron man and Captain America clash works perfect for a superhero movie. It feels real in a world that a normal scientist can grow into a huge beast, turn green and still keep his purple pants to fit him. Like seriously how is that possible? Regardless, this movie is a one of Marvel’s best. It includes a lesser known hero, Black Panther who is freaking sick throughout! Black Panther will surprise the movie going public with how dynamic his character and action is. Spider Man finally makes his Marvel cinematic debut (thanks Sony for throwing in the towel) and he is a breath of comedic relief and adds flair to the role. Not only do the new characters perform well and mesh well with the current lineup but the established characters carry the plot. The plight between Ironman and Captain America is what drives this movie. In other Marvel movies it is easy to get lost in the vast amount of characters. By having two clear cut main characters the movie is able to not get completely lost in itself and action. Captain America Civil War is a blockbuster, it is well aware of this; it includes great action, a simple plot and is certainly a fun time throughout its runtime.
