Thought of the Day: March 14th

The longest foot race of all time was held in 1929 over 3,635 miles between Los Angeles and New York City. The 79 day race ended with Finnish born Johnny Salo winning. However, Salo’s time was only 2 minutes and 47 seconds ahead of the second place recipient Pietro Gavuzzi, and at the beginning of the last day Salo mistakenly received a 5-6 minute head start. So, officially, Johnny Salo holds the world record for this event, but the true champion would have been Gavuzzi. – Guinness World Records: Sensational Survival Records
