The Mayo girls tennis team has been a powerhouse for the past 23 years, winning the section 1AA 22 out of 23 years, and they aren’t going to stop. They have gone to state six years in a row. For 17 years in a row, the Mayo girls tennis team has been the Big 9 Champs. At the end of this season, the tennis team defeated Lakeville North 7-0 in the semi-finals. Then they beat the 7th ranked team in state Lakeville South 6-1. As a result, they are ranked third in state and look to have a promising run in those matches.

The tennis team is led by three senior captains, Emma Trncic, Emily Norman, and Amalin Sorajja. The three captains have very different styles and personalities, but that is one of the reasons they are so successful. They do a great job of motivating the team members, keeping everyone focused on their goals, but they also lead by example, each having strong showings in their matches. However, they are not the only players who have been doing well this season. Besides the three captains, Deeya Patel and Ellen Baranczyk have made it to the semifinals for individuals, so five Mayo Spartans in total. Emma Trncic is the section champion in singles, while Emily Norman and Amalin Sorajja earned second place in the doubles sections. Deeya Patel and Ellen Baranczyk got fourth place in doubles. Trncic, Norman, and Sorajja have advanced to state for individual competition as well.

The state tournament is the 23rd through 26th of October. The 22nd and the 23rd is the team competition, and the 25th and the 26th involves the individual competition. The state tournament is held at the Baseline Tennis Center at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
